Lazy Sunday… or not?

Usually I reserve Sundays for school work and try to relax as much as possible on Saturdays. I should try and get all my work done on Saturdays so I can chill out on Sundays and not have anything to worry about… but that doesn’t ever happen.

I headed to the gym around 1 (and having to run back home to get my sneakers, of course) and met up with my friend, Jess, who I haven’t seen since last summer. We caught up while working out. We did:

  • planks with straight arms (1 min) and planks on our elbows (1 min)
  • Ab workout with the medicine ball (4 sets, 10 reps each)
  • Plank to low plank “push ups” (10 on each side)
  • Elliptical for 18 minutes or 1.8 miles
  • Ran 1 mile on the track
  • Went into the “scary man room” and did some squats with the bar (0lb, 10lb, 25lb – 15, 15, 5 reps)
  • squats with 20lb weight
  • Many, many calf raises

I felt great afterwards and am thinking I’m going to be a little sore tomorrow.

I did some quick food shopping and then it was time to hit the books (…sort of) After lunch and a quick episode of How I Met Your Mother, I got most of my work done.

Tonight I FINALLY went to see the Black Swan. It was a fantastic movie, I’m really interested to see what the writers intended for the movie. I have to admit I was slightly confused during some of it, but I found it all to be so surreal and crazy that I can’t help but want to know more about the movie.

My alarm is set for 5:30am which means it’s bedtime!

Ice skating and 10k training

First week of classes is over! Although there were only 4 days in my week, it felt so long. I haven’t been in real classes in almost a year! My classes in Spain were a joke and I had absolutely no outside obligations besides classes, so it was quite a reality check. My schedule this semester isn’t too bad though.

Monday, Wednesday & Friday: Biopsychology 9:35-10:25, History 1500 to present 10:40-11:30, and Analyzing Spanish Literature from 11:45-12:35

Tuesday & Thursday: 11:00-11:45 Ice Skating and 2:30-3:45 Honors seminar in ancient Greek comedy

Every morning I wake up at 5:30am to be at a local elementary school for a before school research program.

I also have a work-study position at the theatre, a research assistant position in a lab on campus, as well as a thesis to start researching.

I enjoy everything I do and I much prefer to be busy than to have a ton of free time. Structure helps me manage my time better 🙂

To celebrate the end of an exhausting week, I wanted to go ice skating! After an unsuccessful gym adventure (reminder – don’t go to the gym after 5pm, especially in January!), I really wanted to go out and do something at night. I convinced Justin and a friend to go with me and we had a good time skating (or attempting to skate, for some of us ;))

Today I wanted to attend a beginner spin class at the gym, which was FREE and especially for beginners, which I was really into. Unfortunately when I got to the gym, I realized I had left my sneakers at home and wouldn’t have had enough time to go home and grab them. I decided to try and run outside. I ended up running close to 2 miles in 14 degree weather. Not too bad! I’m not keeping track of times, I just want to get the distance in. My training plan for the 10k doesn’t start until next week, but I wanted to get a head start.

I’m currently avoiding homework/laundry/cleaning my room so I should probably get to that!

First blog post

Here it is – my first blog post! I can’t promise anything too exciting, grammatically correct, or super creative, but we’ll see!

I’m a junior studying Psychology and Spanish in Burlington, Vermont. After spending four months in Spain and eating TONS of food that wasn’t the best for my body, I decided that upon my return that I would embrace a more healthy lifestyle. What better place to do it than in the fourth healthiest city in Vermont? Of course I’m not perfect and neither is my current lifestyle but my goal is to make it the healthiest possible.

My current goals include making running a bigger part of my life. I plan to run a 10K in Shelburne, VT on March 26, 2011 and am currently training for it. I also want to do more effective cross-training and more yoga.
